About The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room
Reopening May 24, 2023
Located at 1151 Oxford Rd, San Marino, CA 91108, The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room operates as a cafe serving San Marino in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–4 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach The Huntington's Rose Garden Tea Room at (626) 405-3453; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 599 reviews, which is a strong result for a cafe in San Marino and suggests consistent service.
San Marino is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Marino follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I haven't had such an exceptional afternoon tea in a long time. The scones and madeleines were the best I've ever had. Everything was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Reservations are highly recommended.

As someone with a south Asian/Middle Eastern background, tea is something I grew up with and is very formalized in my culture. I’ve been able to try amazing tea places all over the world, and I am very sad to say this is not one of them. It’s simply a place for aesthetics, the food was very average, I did the Huntington tea that includes a tea of your choice along with bite-size food such as salmon and mini sandwiches as seen in my photos. Food was very okay, but the sad part is that the tea was incredibly below average, you can find better tea at your local grocery store. The tea is in a bag and not even looseleaf, which is shocking for a tea room. Additionally, they give you a bag of tea dipped in a pot of hot water, and as you pour it into your cup, they keep coming around and asking if they can pour more hot water into your pot… which effectively just dilutes the entire tea after just one fill, they came around three times to keep refilling the pot (I have never seen this before, nor should it happen). It just ended up tasting like microwaved Lacroix. For $78 per person, an incredibly overpriced and poor tasting experience. The interior is also incredibly loud, everyone’s conve

Review: The Rose Garden Tea Room Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ The ambiance at the Huntington’s Tea Room is absolutely stunning—it’s easily the highlight of the experience. The wait staff are incredibly kind and professional, and they really make the afternoon feel special. However, when it comes to the value, I felt it was a bit pricey for what you actually get. The food quality is nice, but the balance feels a bit off; the tray was very heavy on sweets compared to savory options. For the price point, I really feel like a soup or salad should be included in the standard tea service rather than being an extra add-on. If those were bundled in, the cost would feel much more justified. It almost makes you wonder if the high price is a way to limit the crowds, because it definitely doesn't feel like you’re getting a high return in terms of food volume. On a positive note, they have a fantastic selection of wines if that’s your thing. I specifically loved that they offer a non-alcoholic Prosecco in lieu of champagne—it’s a great touch for those of us who aren't big drinkers. The Hibiscus iced tea was also excellent. Beautiful setting and great service, but I’d love to see a bit more variety and valu

The Rose Garden Tea Room was an amazing tea service meal to celebrate with family for a well deserved Birthday. Everything we had from the multiple trays and small bites were so good! I really recommend dining out on the patio if you have lovely weather and full roses like we did. The roses here during full bloom (we went May '24) were amazing and so sweet smelling even from the patio! And it was best to wander around the Rose Gardens right after ❤️ While I have absolutely no complaints to the food, service, or atmosphere of the Tea Room, I do wish we didn't have to purchase full priced tickets into the Huntington Library and Grounds prior to dining at the Tea Room. It did make it for a pricey day; I will say if it was discounted tickets for having a dining reservation (which had to be made months in advance) it would make it even more a wonderful experience 🙏

We really enjoyed our afternoon tea here. We originally made a reservation for inside dining room but found the noise inside to be significant, so asked to change to outdoors. The outdoor seating was lovely, and would be even better when roses are in bloom. Everything we had was good or great. We each tried a unique tea we both really enjoyed. The scones and desserts were amazing. The sandwiches were good to great. Overall for the price point this was very reasonable for a high quality experience.
